A full return to school for K-12 students will be delayed until Monday, January 10, 2022, to allow schools time to implement enhanced safety measures.
Dear MMA Staff and Families,
In response to high numbers associated with the Omicron variant, BC schools will be delaying the return of students from winter break to allow districts and individual schools implement enhanced safety measures. Maria Montessori Academy will take a sequential approach with all staff returning on January 4th, 2022, to reinforce health and safety measures in preparation for students returning on January 10th.
K-Grade 12 Students with exceptional needs or whose parents work in the health care system are able to return on Wednesday, January 5th. The Ministry of Education is asking schools to prioritize providing care to children of healthcare workers and first responders.
We appreciate your adherence to the spirit of this measure which is to provide the Academy with the best chance of maintaining safe in-person learning through the second and third terms.
Over the three days, the academy will fortify existing safety measures ahead of the January 10 return of students including:
- Avoiding crowding during transition times.
- Limiting school visitors to those directly involved in programming.
- Maximizing spacing between people and avoiding face to face arrangements where possible.
- Holding school gatherings and events virtually.
Although this is not the holiday gift anyone wished for…we are well placed to adapt to this challenge.
I acknowledge the staff of MMA who adjust with every turn in the road, and I thank you, our community, for doing your part to support this difficult journey.
With all that said…I wish you a Happy New Year’s weekend. I hope you are able to soak in the rest of the snow and blue skies!
Mr. Patrick Vincentine
Principal
