Maria Montessori Academy is an independent school in Victoria offering dynamic, hands-on learning to students from Preschool to Grade 12. We are currently seeking a High School teacher to begin September 2024. The high school class, colloquially known as Omega, encompasses Grade 9-12 and consists of approximately 70 students. Class sizes in Omega are approximately 18 for our Junior (9 / 10) classes and range from 10-18 in our Senior (11 / 12) classes.
Teachers in Omega work together in a highly collaborative environment and help support each other in the delivery of BC Curriculum through a Montessori lens. We are seeking a BC certified high school teacher to join our team beginning September 1st / 2024 who can deliver:
- Science 9
- Science 10
- Physics 11/12
- Chemistry 11/12
- Environmental Science 12
In addition to these classes, the successful candidate will also be responsible for preparation, assessment, classroom management, professional development and school meetings, and to be familiar with the provincial curriculum.
Although course outlines will be provided, the successful applicant will also be responsible for amending these outlines to better suit their personal teaching style.
We are looking for a forward-thinking educator who is confident in their delivery of material and who enjoys collaborating with other professionals. The successful candidate will have excellent time management skills and be eager to work with our high school population (ages 13-18) in both academic and non-academic settings.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BC Teacher Certification
- Successful applicant must be local to Victoria, BC
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and / or related professional experience
- Well versed in numerous computer applications and programs
- Strong knowledge of the relevant provincial curriculum Interested in working collaboratively with colleagues
- Successful experience working with and understanding students of this age group
- Organized, punctual, and reliable
- Invested in professional development and furthering their own learning as a professional
- Excellent communication skills with students, their parents, and colleagues
Additional Assets :
- Current First Aid & CPR-C
- Excellent classroom management, behaviour management, and organizational skills
- Montessori training / experience
- Ability to maintain and promote working relationships with community professionals
- Class 4 driver’s license
- Willingness to participate in Outdoor Education

We are currently seeking a part-time teacher to join our Inclusive Education team to begin September 2024 (0.6 FTE). Our Inclusive Education department services students in Kindergarten to Grade 12. The advertised role will focus on supporting literacy and numeracy development for elementary-aged students.
We are looking for a forward-thinking educator who maintains a neuro-affirming approach to supporting students. Preference will be given to candidates with a background or training in Inclusive Education. The successful candidate will have excellent time management skills and be eager to work with our elementary school population.

Maintenance Team
Maria Montessori Academy is an independent school located in the Gordon Head area of Victoria.
We are seeking a hardworking, conscientious person to join our Maintenance and Janitorial team.
This is a full time position, and there is some flexibility on hours. The successful candidate will join a team comprised of two full time maintenance/janitorial staff and share the task of cleaning and maintaining our school building and grounds.
Qualifications:
- 18 months experience working in a similar job
- Clean Criminal record check
- Grade 12 graduation or equivalent

Lead Hand / Facilities Supervisor
Maria Montessori Academy is a well-established school with 15 classrooms housing 350 students and staff. We are situated in a retired public-school building in Gordon head on a 3+ acre parcel of land. The ideal candidate would be comfortable working in an educational environment and would enjoy projects ranging from renovations to furniture repair.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Principal of Maria Montessori Academy, the Lead Hand / Facilities Supervisor major responsibility will be the development, monitoring, and implementation of the school capital projects. This succession position will require that the individual work and experience all operational facets, including janitorial, of the School (maintenance, custodial and busing).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and implement a School Capital Plan in collaboration with school administration (and the board of directors/Long Term Planning Committee?)
- Manage capital funds
- Manage and administer contract documents
- Liaise with external partners including City and Municipal authorities, Consultants, and School Administration
- Ensure school compliance on WorkSafe BC regulations and building codes
- Facilitate general maintenance of the school amongst the rest of the maintenance team
- Communicate with school principal on all matters
- Working as a team member in the operational areas of the school
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum ten years’ experience in the construction industry, school environment experience would be an asset
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective work relations
- Clean criminal record check
