Inclusive Education Co-ordinator (Senior School)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Principal of Maria Montessori Academy, the Inclusive Education Coordinator’s major responsibilities will include supporting high school students who need additional academic support, assisting in the development of IEPs, collaborating with teachers to track student progress, communicating with parents, and ensuring all student documentation is in place. This succession position will require that the individual work with administration, teachers, students, and parents.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and implement Individual Education Plans
- Oversee IEPs
- Set up and run IEP meetings with teachers and parents
- Ensure that all paperwork and documentation is in place
- Working as a team member in both our middle and high school
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BC Teacher Certification
- Diploma in Special and Inclusive Education
- Minimum five years experience within a school environment
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with students, colleagues, and parents
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective work relations
- Clearn criminal record check

Maria Montessori Academy is currently seeking fun, responsible people to work in our elementary Out of School Care Program. The successful applicants have the ability to engage with children, plan, participate in and supervise activities, and maintain a clean and organized environment.
Our before school care program runs from 7:30 – 8:30 and is a quiet, settled hour with students in kindergarten – grade 6. The supervisor will spend the hour facilitating and participating in quiet games. When students are picked up for class, it is the supervisor’s responsibility to clean the tables and ensure all supplies etc were put away.
Our after school care program runs from 3:00 – 5:00. The supervisors are expected to spend the time facilitating games & activities and ensuring safety of children. It is expected that supervisors will communicate with parents at pick up time and communicate with co-workers on an ongoing basis. Excellent verbal & written communication skills with both children and adults are essential.
The ideal candidate:

– has experience working with this age group in a recreational setting
– has exceptional communication skills with both children and adults

– enjoys both facilitating and participating in activites alongside the children

The successful candidate is ideally available Monday – Friday from September 2022 – June 2023.

Manager: Capital Projects
Maria Montessori Academy is a well-established school with 15 classrooms housing 350 students and staff. We are situated in a retired public-school building in Gordon head on a 3+ acre parcel of land. The ideal candidate would be comfortable working in an educational environment and would enjoy projects ranging from renovations to furniture repair.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Principal of Maria Montessori Academy, the Manager – Capital Projects major responsibility will be the development, monitoring, and implementation of the school capital projects. This succession position will require that the individual work and experience all operational facets of the School (maintenance, custodial and busing). The Manager – Capital Projects will assume full responsibility of the operational areas upon retirement of the current manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and implement a School Capital Plan
- Manage capital funds
- Manage and administer contract documents
- Liaise with external partners including City and Municipal authorities, Consultants, and School Administration
- Ensure school compliance on WorkSafe BC regulations and building codes
- Working as a team member in the operational areas of the school
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of trades related certificate – preference will be given to a journeyman carpenter
- Minimum ten years’ experience in the construction industry, school environment experience would be an asset
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective work relations
- Clearn criminal record check

We are seeking a Classroom Asisstant to join our High School team. The successful candidate would join a team of educators passionate about providing a holistic learning experience for high school students. Experience with Montessori is certainly an asset but not a necessity.
The successful candidate will be working directly with students on curriculum development, teaching, and observing classroom learning objectives. An Educational Assistant will provide additional support to the classroom teacher and is responsible for observing classroom learning objectives, keeping teachers informed of student progress, and providing additional help in the classroom as required. The ideal candidate for this position will have prior experience working with individuals who have special needs and have worked in a school environment.
The ideal candidate is/has:
* Has successful experience working with and understanding students in high school
* Comfortable assisting students with high school level academic work
* Familiar with implementing and updating IEPs
* Able to take direction as well as initiative
* Excellent communication skills with both children and adults
* Organized and reliable
* The desire to learn about the Montessori philosophy
* Experience and/or education with students with special needs is an asset
* Current First Aid or willingness to acquire
*Able to participate in and attend Outdoor Education trips

Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies Teacher
We are seeking a BC certified teacher to join our team beginning September 2021 with possible extensions.
This position involves teaching students in elementary, middle, and high school and includes instruction, preparation, assessment, classroom management, professional development and school meetings, and familiarity with the provincial curriculum. The ability to provide overall technology support would be a bonus and could lend itself to a full time position.
We are looking for a forward thinking educator and who is ready to deliver lessons from the Applied Design, Skills, & Technologies provincial curriculum and enjoys collaborating with other professionals. You are the right person if you love finding ways to integrate technology in cross curricular ways, have excellent time management skills, and are capable to teach students across the ages. Our ideal candidate is confident with Microsoft products, a keen ability to problem solve, and is a quick learner.
Minimum Qualifications:
* BC Teacher Certification
* Bachelor degree in a related field
* Well versed in numerous computer applications and programs
* Interested in working collaboratively with colleagues
* Successful experience working with and understanding students of this age group
