Dear MMA Community
The COVID-19 crisis that we face today is unprecedented. These are indeed worrying times and it is important to look after yourself and your family members.
I wanted to reach out to you personally as the Chair of the Maria Montessori Board. As Spring Break comes to an end, the Board wants to keep our families, staff, and students informed with what is on the horizon for the school.
This year, the return from the Break will look much different than in previous years. Due to COVID-19, the provincial government has suspended all in-class instruction until further notice meaning students will not be returning to the classroom on March 30th. Given this directive, our administration and staff have been working diligently over the past several days to put plans in place that allow students to continue with their studies. As well, our playground has now been closed upon the direction from the Medical Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.
I also thought I would share what the Board has approved. All of our staff will continue to be employed since they will be providing alternate education services. As you probably already know, the staff have moved away from face-to-face classes. As these different educational services unfold, the staff will be in touch with you next week.
As well, the Board recognizes that many families will have some financial difficulties as more and more businesses are closed, resulting in parents being laid off and out of work due to the virus. For those families on the monthly installment plan, the Board has approved a deferment plan for tuition for April and May to help these families. Please contact Mr. Patrick about the details for this plan.
Staff, parents, and students are the heart of this excellent school community, and the Board is deeply appreciative of all the ways our MMA community is adjusting to these challenging times. Our administration and staff have been outstanding throughout with their patience and willingness to adapt to these unprecedented challenges.
Please check the school website for some updates from the school and the Ministry of Education.
Stay healthy!
Warmest regards,
Betty Milne
