Philosophy and Policies

At Maria Montessori Academy, our athletics program is designed to be inclusive and fun, with a focus on skill-building, inclusion, and enjoyment. Participation is open to all interested students, and we aim to foster a positive, supportive environment where students can explore movement and sports as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that students benefit from the life lessons learned through team activities and personal growth, regardless of skill level or prior experience. We value physical literacy, social development, and teamwork as essential components of the Montessori whole-child approach.

Commitment & Participation

  • Students will be asked to make a commitment for the full season if they choose to join a team.
  • Participation is based on inclusion and enthusiasm, not skill level.
  • We aim for equitable and consistent playing time for all team members, in line with LIMSSA’s emphasis on development and participation.

Logistics & Transportation

  • Parent drivers may be required to help transport students to and from games or events.
  • Parents will need to pick up their children directly from the venue at the end of away games or practices held offsite.
  • We appreciate the support of our parent community in making extracurricular athletics possible.

We are proud to offer an accessible and joyful approach to school sports that reflects Montessori values, emphasizing collaboration over competition, process over outcome, and the development of confident, resilient, and active athletes.
